This is the philosophy that led to the birth of Boulevard Prince Jewelry: Surround yourself with beauty. Beauty is healing whether it's found in nature, in the sky, in your environment, or what you wear. Beauty opens up the channels that allow us to give and receive love. Living in a beautiful environment--whether it's man-made or in nature, soothes the spirit. When we are out and about, at work or at play, having portable beauty in the form of clothes and jewelry lifts us up. Spreading beauty is one of the most wonderful things a person can do. Giving an object of beauty not only benefits the receiver, but even more so the giver. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of finding a treasure chest full of jewels. It could be a sunken treasure, it could be Aladdin's' cave, or perhaps the end of a map where X marks the spot. When I wasn't dreaming of finding beautiful things, I dreamt of making them.
As a teenager, I became obsessed with the glamour of the 1920's Paris café society where artists and writers frequented cafes to argue love and life. Where elegant boulevardiers strode the avenues to see and be seen. I longed to be a part of this milieu. I longed for one of the boulevardiers to sweep me up in his arms and spirit me away to a life of romance and adventures. And I longed to travel the world to find the adventures that awaited.
My goals were set: Learning how to creating objects of beauty, seeing the world, and preparing for a profession which allowed me to use my creativity and to work with my hands. I left my birthplace of Hollywood to move to the San Francisco Bay Area where I studied fine art and silversmithing at the California College of Art. After two years there, I moved to London where I completed a course in Fashion Design. At the same time, I continued my studies in silversmithing. While in London, I was often able to hop over to the Continent. I loved visiting the museums and particularly loved viewing the costumes and the jewelry sections.
After a number of years, I was ready to leave the foggy climes of London and return to sunny California. I sought employment in the garment industry where I worked for many years as a fashion designer. Although I loved creating clothing, I did not enjoy the cut-throat aspect that was standard fare in the industry.
My next career was in home furnishings. I imported from Indonesia, India, and China. Again, this was an opportunity to surround myself with beauty--both in the nature and architecture of the countries, not to mention bringing in magnificent hand-crafted pieces. Of course, I would be amiss if I didn't mention the less physical form of beauty I encountered in the many people of many cultures I met along the way.
Alas, this too came to an end. But not before I created my home. Inspired by my time in Bali, I planted a lush tropical garden. I furnished the interior with many of my imports. Meanwhile, for pleasure, I revisited an old passion--jewelry making. My exotic home and tropical garden was the perfect setting for location rentals--mainly for fashion shoots and music videos. Occasionally, the artists would purchase some of my pieces to use in shoots or for their own pleasure. This started me thinking about men's jewelry. It seemed that so much of what was being sold on the market was very similar to one another. What was lacking was a decent selection of hand-made artisan type of pieces that I turned out in my studio.
And so Boulevard Prince Jewelry was born.
Boulevardier (originally in Paris) A fashionable man of the past. He frequents the à la mode public places. He visits the opera, cafes, and elegant clubs. He appreciates a fine carriage and distinction in his dress.
Boulevard Prince (any town, anywhere) A stylish man of our times. He goes out on the town visiting concerts, fine restaurants, and cool clubs. He appreciates a well-designed car, and (of course) unique jewelry.
